Underground Service Alert of Southern California (USA/SC), also known as DigAlert, was established on September 13, 1976 in response to a tragic accident that occurred in Culver City three months prior. This accident involved a construction crew unintentionally breaching a petroleum pipeline on Venice Blvd, resulting in a devastating explosion that claimed the lives of nine individuals. The incident also led to the destruction of an entire city block and caused millions of dollars in damages. This catastrophic event served as a catalyst for the formation of USA/SC, which has been providing its services to this region of California ever since.
